The Chessa has a blunt snout with its mouth situated almost under the jaw. Juveniles are silver on the body with yellow to orange pelvic, pectoral and anal fins - intensity of colour varies with water conditions. Adults attain olive/green body colouring with age with only the pelvic fins remaining ornage. Size ranges from 2 to 6 kg in general 0 smaller fish being more common. The fish prefers to live in deeper water and quiet pools although they can be found in most water environments of Zimbabwe. It si plentiful in its main distribution areas of Kariba, Middle Zambezi and valley tributaries. It has a great vetetable diet than Nkupe but also feeds on molluscs, crustacea, shimps and small fish. Angling is similar to Nkupe.
