Eating Fishy in Zimbabwe

With a small depressed head, terminal mouth and elongated body this serves to separate the species from the rest of the mormyrids. The colouring is between yellow and bronze depending on the water quality - juveniles are a deep blue colour.

It prefers deep. quiet pools.

It is to be found in the Zambezi River below Victoria Falls and in the Zambezi, Pungwe and Buzi Rivers.

It is one of Zimbabwe's largest and most popular angling fish.

Because of its relatively small mouth, a large bait is not necessary and a thin fillet of fish is as good as anything - it will also take worms and crabs and has been know to take a small spoon.. Light tackle is adequate as this fish is not known for its fighting abilities.

The flesh is considered particularly tasty and is generally soft. The fish should be cooked soon after catching as the flesh goes off quickly
