Eating Fishy in Zimbabwe

The Plain or Brown Squeaker is generally olive brown to dark grey in colour with a paler ventral surface. Fins are usually a lighter colour. Juveniles are spotted and this can persist in some adults.

They rarely reach over .75 of a kg. in weight.

They like deep water and are found mainly in the Zambezi River below Victoria Falls and the valley part of the lower Zambezi and valley sections of the tributaries.
They are very common in suitable habitats.

They live mainly of fish and any other living organism that is small enough to be swallowed including maize seeds, vegetables and berries.

It is considered an anglers pest it being very difficult to remove the hook without being injured in the process! However if one does want to catch this species use worms, insects or fish bait on a small hook.
