Eating Fishy in Zimbabwe

Coloration of this fish varies with water clarity from pale olive to gold.

It appears to prefer faster water associated with rocky bottoms rather than a sandy river or swampy environment.

It appears in Lake Kariba, the Middle Zambezi and larger tributaries.

It is plentiful in a favourable habitat.

Its diet includes aquatic larvae, insects, shrimps, crustacea, mollusks and small fish.

This is a specialist anglers species and one normally fishes for it in areas where one would not normally encounter other species. A heavy sinker is necessary and the chance of loosing tackle is great as one is most likely to catch the species in in fast shallow water or rapids.

It is a fighter and sometimes considered among the top three species in fighting ability.

Mealie meal bate is as good as any but worms, insects, small frogs and crabs may give results. A small silver spoon will also give entertaining and exciting fishing.
