A bit of History
From 1962, with 33 Teams entering mainly from Zimbabwe and South Africa, the tournament has grown and in 1991 there were 333 teams - some 300 more teams than the first tournament. At last year's tournament 186 teams participated from 6 countries.

The 2000 Tournament recorded the biggest catch in it's 39 years of 9 910.700 kgs - this being a 4 833kg fish. The biggest fish to come from the Tournament was caught by Mike Otto in 1989 weighing 10.210kg. Ladies have become a force to be reckoned with and both the Ladies records were broken in 2000. The top Ladies Individual Aggregate stands at 58.890kg held by Char Ward, and the biggest fish by a lady being 8.850kg, held by Merinada Wheeler.
KITFT was recognized by IGFA as one of the greatest Game Fish tournaments in the World and KITFT was made a qualifying round of the IGFA Inshore World Game Fish Championships.

Colin Osborne represented Zimbabwe through the Tiger Tournament at the IGFA event and astounded the American anglers by taking 3rd place on day one, 4th place on day two and ending up 8th overall. An unbelievable achievement for an angler coming from a landlocked country! IGFA have once again made KITFT a qualifying event for the 2002 Championships, KITFT being the only qualifying round in Africa, definitely a feather in Zimbabwe Angling's cap.

This year's event sees an unbelievable amount of sponsors coming forward. The total value of the Sponsorship this year is in the region of $ 7 000 000,00.
KITFT's Internet site is run by Marine Electronics and is updated on a regular basis. The address is http://www.kitft.com.
